At Sobercon 2024, we were able to contribute money to organizations that assist people in recovery.

WE wouldn’t do this – if it weren’t for that – This year we want to donate a portion of our funds to Shatterproof, a meaningful non-profit.

Shatterproof is a national nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated to reversing the addiction crisis. It was founded in 2013 by Gary Mendell, a former hotel executive who lost his son, Brian, to addiction. Shatterproof focuses on advocacy, education, and support for those affected by addiction, aiming to reduce the stigma surrounding substance use disorders and improve access to effective treatment.

Key Goals and Initiatives

  1. Reducing Stigma:
  • Shatterproof works to change public perception of addiction through campaigns like the “Just Five” education program and the National Stigma Initiative.
  1. Improving Treatment:
  • Advocates for evidence-based practices in addiction treatment and creates resources for families and healthcare providers to identify effective care.
  1. Policy Advocacy:
  • Pushes for changes in laws and regulations to expand access to treatment and prevention services, such as advocating for parity in mental health and substance abuse care coverage.
  1. Support for Families:
  • Offers online tools and resources to help families navigate addiction and recovery processes, such as the Treatment Atlas, a tool that helps find high-quality addiction treatment centers.
  1. Raising Awareness and Funds:
  • Organizes events like the Shatterproof Challenge Rappel, where participants rappel down skyscrapers to raise awareness and funding for addiction treatment and recovery programs.

Shatterproof aims to transform the way addiction is perceived and treated in the U.S., working to ensure that addiction is treated as a chronic disease rather than a moral failing.
